The history of Toyoda

1941

Toyoda Machine Works, Ltd. established as an independant subsidiary
separated from the machine tool division of
Toyota Motor Corporation.
(Founder: Kiichiro Toyoda)

1955

Started production of cylindrical grinders
(technical tie-up with Gendron, France).
First transfer machine completed in Japan.

1965

Developed Toyoda grinders, original brand.
Toyoda. Started  operations at Okazaki plant.

1968

Started production of power-steering systems.
Developed machining centre.

1972

Developed TOYOPUC versatile controller.

1973

Machine tool sales company established in Brasil.

1977

Machine tool sales company established in the USA.

1980

Started production of constant-velocity joints for automobiles.

1986

Developed world’s first automated camshaft grinder
and start of production.
Production plant in Takahama completed.
(Today located in Tadomisaki)

1996

Started production of steering systems in Thailand.

1998

Started production of 4WD electronic control coupling systems (ITCC).
Established Technology Development Centre in Hanazono.

2002

Established FAVESS Co. Ltd. to conduct development and sales
of electric power steering systems.

 

Established Toyoda in Krefeld.

2003

Tie-up with Mitsui Seiki Kogyo Co. Ltd.
(machine tool operations)
Aquired TORSEN business division of Bosch Automotive.
Started production of automotive parts in China.
Established Toyoda Machinery (Dalian) Co., Ltd. in China
to produce machine tools.

2006

Founded Jtekt Corporation
„J“ stands for Joint, Joy and Japan
„TEKT“ is an abbreviation oft he ancient word „tekton“Wort „tekton“,
meaning „a person who has excellent skills“.

2011

Change of company name to Toyoda Machinery Europe
